B.S. in Accountancy
The Accountancy (ACC) degree in the Wake Forest University School of Business provides a foundation in the concepts, principles and practices of accountancy and business that students need for success in a variety of careers.
A paid, professional internship is strongly recommended and built into the curriculum during senior year. This internship provides the critical link between classroom knowledge and professional experience.
The major also lays the academic and experiential groundwork for students to successfully complete the one-year STEM-designated Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) degree. Students majoring in accountancy can apply to the MSA program during their junior year. This one year graduate program offers the flexibility and rigorous preparation required to pursue a variety of careers, including auditing and assurance, taxation, business advisory services, forensic accounting, and investment and commercial banking. Through courses, seminars, case-based research in finance, accounting, auditing and taxation, MSA students acquire the skills necessary for professional success.
Wake Accounting Society
The Wake Accounting Society is a member-based student organization run by student leaders for undergraduate students interested in learning about the accounting profession from practitioners, faculty, and other students. The policies and programs of the Wake Accounting Society are administered under the guidance and direction of a faculty adviser from the accounting program.
Degree Requirements
Today’s accounting and finance professionals must possess knowledge, experience, and a well-developed set of technical skills to meet the challenges of a wide range of business environments. To that end, Accountancy majors complete required coursework in intermediate accounting and finance, taxation, auditing, systems, and ethics. During senior year, Accountancy majors are encouraged to complete a ten-week, paid professional accounting or finance internship. After graduation, students are encouraged to complete the one-year STEM-designated Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program.
The Master of Science in Accountancy program at Wake Forest School of Business prepares students for a variety of careers in accounting and financial services. The program is STEM-designated and includes a variety of courses in Data Analytics, Advanced Accounting, and Regulation, as well as a choice among three different tracks: Auditing, Taxation, and Financial Transaction Services.
The MSA program also prepares students to take the CPA examination. The Wake Forest School of Business MSA has received national recognition for our students’ success on the examination, ranking #1 in CPA pass rate more often than any other school in the past twenty years. All students participate in intensive coursework to prepare for a career in auditing, tax consulting, investment banking, or financial consulting. Most MSA students receive significant financial aid for the program, offered to students on a competitive basis.
PLEASE NOTE: All students who have been accepted into the undergraduate business program are subject to the major requirements listed in the Bulletin year of their acceptance into the School. Official bulletins are available online.
